Graphic paper production creates high demands for forming fabric designs. Andritz Kufferath offers a comprehensive range of products to meet graphic paper machines’ wet end requirements.

Andritz Kufferath forming fabrics have been specially designed to meet the challenging demands of

• newsprint
• LWC (light-weight coated) papers
• wood-free and wood-containing papers
• NCR (no carbon required) papers

Andritz Kufferath supplies state-of-the-art structure-bound-triple-layer fabric types as well as an extensive range of double-layer types. Andritz Kufferath fabrics regularly yield excellent results in terms of formation and sheet smoothness. Andritz Kufferath fabrics offer good drainage properties and high dimensional stability.

Special properties of newsprint are its low basis weight range and fine surface structure. Modern printing processes require a finished product with superior physical properties to guarantee printing without web breaks.

Andritz Kufferath's Geoflex X® 325 triple layer forming fabric yields outstanding results on newsprint machines. Depending on the requirements of the application, Andritz Kufferath recommends fabrics in the fineness range of 61 to 72 yarns per cm.

SC (super-calendered) papers generally require high surface quality – in particular gloss and smoothness. For SC paper machines Andritz Kufferath recommends a range of forming fabrics of high fineness.

For the bottom position on Hybridformers mainly triple-layer structure-bound fabrics belonging to the Geoflex® X 325 product family within the Andritz Kufferath range are used. Double-and 2.5-layer fabrics from the product line Microflex® and Microflex® F complete the programme.

LWC papers have a relatively low basis weight of between 32 and 38 g/m². Their most important quality features are surface smoothness, gloss and whiteness.

The production of LWC papers requires forming fabrics that are marking free.

For LWC papers Andritz Kufferath focuses on the wide spectrum of structure-bound fabric types Geoflex® X 325 supplemented by double-and 2.5-layer fabrics Microflex® 208 and Microflex® F 207 as well as triple-weft fabrics Geoflex® R 307.

Forming fabrics for wood-containing papers must help ensure excellent sheet surface quality.

Andritz Kufferath forming fabrics are used in the production of coated and uncoated paper grades. Andritz Kufferath fabric designs have worked well with all furnish combinations including mechanical pulp, TMP, waste paper or DIP.

For wood-containing paper grades Andritz Kufferath recommends the use of Microflex® 207, Microflex® 208, Microflex® F 207 and Geoflex® X 325.

Compared to SC or LWC papers, woodfree papers are less demanding as far as the marking criteria are concerned. The main quality criteria are formation and surface flatness.

For woodfree papers Andritz Kufferath offers a wide range of forming fabrics to meet the large variety of paper qualities and paper machines. Andritz Kufferath forming fabrics yield good results both with short-fibre and long-fibre pulp in the production of coated and uncoated paper grades.

The paper machine clothing on offer for this paper grade comprises among the increasingly used structure-bound Geoflex® X 325 types nearly the complete range of double-layer fabrics up to the extremely CD-stable Geoflex® RL 314.

Forming fabrics for NCR papers contribute considerably to achieving quality features such as good formation, sufficient opacity and lack of fabric-marking.

In all cases Andritz Kufferath forming fabrics are suited to the production of NCR papers.

For the bottom position of Hybrid Formers Andritz Kufferath recommends Microflex® 207, Microflex® 208 or Geoflex® X 325. Microflex® F 207 and Geoflex® X 325 are offered for the top wire position.
